PB&J never tasted so good.

We enjoy our last few minutes of perfect weather before our plunge into one of America's largest caves.

Boman enjoys our digital tour guide.

This cave used to be a huge coral reef at the bottom of the ocean.

A detail from the above image. I like my new camera.

The cave was damp and very dark in some parts.

The trail winds down 750 feet. A lady with a light on her head walks cautiously through the frame.

A hard hat would have been a good idea given my medical history.

Boman treads lightly.

This strange place feels like another world and is very disorienting. Looking up while walking is a bad idea. We both get dizzy and experience vertigo at some points.

The descent continues.

Boman catches me making out with my camera, but I think forced perspective is to blame.

I walk on like nothing happened. Because nothing happened.

Please turn to page 154 in your science text book.

We got dropkicked by nature inside the Hall of Giants.

Eat your heart out Aquafina.

Boman brings the fisheye 35mm down for a test drive. Notice the steady hands...and wide stance.

This is the best view of the Big Room, which is 14 football fields in length and only 600,000 square feet.

The gift shop was closed and the ranger quickly reminded me of this.

We spend four hours beneath Earth's surface and are relieved to find an elevator to take us back up.

Sunlight never felt so good. We get back on the road and head towards White Sands National Monument.

Our first legit campsite in Oliver Lee State Park. No sprinklers and no wi-fi. The air is cool, but not cold. Thin, but not too tight. Perfect.

For an extra $4, we get electricity and a nice boulder to download the day's events.

How appropriate you were in a cave the day our economy collapsed. Great pictures so far. Hope you have time to take a quick side trip to Chaco Canyon after Santa Fe - nice Anasazi ruins from 900AD.
CAN YOU SPOT...
Carlsbad?
...
White Sands?
