DAY TWO - Graceland Too

I wake up the next morning and explore the Boman premises. Male modeling seems to have a track record in the household.

Solid.

Mama Boman spoils us with some home cooking.

The Honda is ready to go, but not before the last embrace.

Fayetteville, GA is beautiful this time of year.

An industrial flag outside Brad Rankin's window. He was a little sour that I shot this, but I showered him with nice compliments.

Strip Mall in Jasper, Alabama.

We got a phone call from Rebecca Gardner urging us to head directly to Graceland Too in Holly Springs, MS. It's a 24-hour house museum dedicated to America's first pop icon, Elvis Presley. We arrive at 11:30 pm. Knock once. No answer. But Boman but some stank on the second knock, and our night just got crazy.

A life-time member lets us in. She's with a group of four from Ithaca, New York. We tag along for the end of their tour. Every inch of every wall and ceiling is covered with Elvis memorbelia. The Ray Finkle scene from Ace Ventura pops into our heads. This is a serious trip.

A room dedicated to all of his visitors with over 4500 photos still to be hung.

The curator and creator, Paul MacLeod, is quite the ladies man. And he's addicted to Coca-Cola. He gleefully quipped "If a tsunami were to hit China, me and Jackie Chan, with a trash bag full of Coca-Colas, could repopulate the country." No kidding.

During the several hour tour, MacLeod tells us all about his life's parallels to Elvis, the naming of his son Elvis (one "A") Aron Presley, the unparalled size of his collection, and the monetary value of it all (everything is described in cold hard cash). After following us to a nearby ATM to retrive the $10 a pop required for the tour, he shook my hand from inside his black Cadillac convertible (given to him by a fan and apparently "fast enough to blow the doors off every car on this block" and "loud enough to blow the widows out of every house") he looked me in the eye and remarked: "I've got Graceland by the nuts!" He cranks...you guessed it, Elvis, and speeds off. It's 2:30 in the morning. Goodbye Paul. We will not forget you.

I'm trying not to picture Paul and Jackie Chan engaged in repopulating China.

OMG! You drove through Jasper, AL! I was born there. Regretfully, I know the "strip mall" that you photographed. I hope you waved to my grandparents. I wish I had known you were traveling through town...I would've had my grandma fix you a sweet potato pie!
